Iraq 1931 (ND 1941) P-15 PMG Very Fine 20 1 Dinar E/5

Iraq 1931 (ND 1941) P-15 PMG Very Fine 20 1 Dinar

E/5 Prefix. The iconic India print 1 Dinar, seen here in pleasing problem-free circulated condition. Similar in design to the regular issues printed by Bradbury & Wilkinson & Co but printed by the Nasik Security Printing Press in India at a time when European shipping routes were impacted due to World War II. As the original printing plates remained in England at the time Nasik copied the design, retaining most of the standard design elements, although due to different design and printing methods they have a notably different appearance.

India print notes for Iraq are limited to the lowest denomination, and this 1 Dinar was the highest denomination printed in India during World War II. It appears that the available supply of higher denominations was sufficient for the everyday commerce in Iraq throughout the War. All denominations are at least scarce, the 1/2 Dinar is a major rarity and both the 1/4 Dinar and 1 Dinar are scarce in problem-free circulated grades. This is one of the nicest we have handled, and it entirely problem-free, destined for an advanced Iraqi collection.
